Instructor Carlos Avila
My journey as a martial artist began at 13, and I have been training at Choe’s HapKiDo Duluth since 2005. And within a few fast passing years, in 2009, I started teaching HapKiDo students. For over a decade, my dedication and passion to help improve lives derive from wanting to see students be their best. My experience as a HapKiDo instructor has taught me how to adapt in teaching children and adults, and I enjoy challenging all through exercises, discipline, and techniques. I believe everyone can achieve their best, and I am dedicated to helping all succeed. I will meet students where they are at, but I also love providing extra resources for the super dedicated students.
While I enjoy having fun, I expect everyone to be at their best and focus on what is present during classes. Training, dedication, hard work, and focus is something important that everyone needs to understand when they start.
From the perspective of an instructor whom I deeply respect: “Kind-hearted while serious, a sense of humor while providing optimal lessons, Instructor Carlos Avila reflects the balance. He is well versed and never stops learning his craft. His motto has been “practicality”: when size plays a role, adaptation and common sense is key. What I also admire about Instructor Avila is that he leads by example and practices what he preaches while working with the students, a true leader of the people.
