Choe’s HapKiDo Karate Duluth — One way we can improve our lives is by bettering our focus. In this day and age, we can get distracted by everything around us, and become frustrated when we can’t finish what we hoped for. Today, we would like to share with you a few tips on how to improve your focus!
Meditate
The mind does better when it’s calm and relaxed, which makes it easier to focus. Anytime you’re about to start work, or you’re having difficulty in focusing, try some meditation. You can also try deep breathing exercises at the desk. Aim for 10-15mins.
Rid distractions
Distractions come in different forms and can be different for everybody. A great goal to have when needing to complete a task, try to simplify what’s at hand. For example, if you have 10 things to complete in a day, prioritize the top three. Another example, if there are a bunch of Internet tabs opened, pick all but the important few to close. Eliminate the phone, or log out of social media. Rid anything that isn’t needed to complete the task.
Exercise
In addition to the long-term effects that exercising has (such as better sleep & mood), the immediate effects include better attention and focus. Studies have shown that when we do aerobic exercise, we create new brain cells, which help us to operate better. We also release body tension, which has us more relaxed.
One of the reasons we love Choe’s HapKiDo Karate Duluth, it teaches students how to build better focus. By teaching them how to eliminate distractions so to have a better meditation session, they also benefit from the exercise. What’s more, to accomplish perfecting all of our techniques requires 100% focus because students are needing to combine several different elements all at once. By practicing an art that requires resetting one’s focus over and over, it becomes a transferable skill to all areas of life.
